Don't Forget To Look Down, You Never Know What Crazy Things You'll Discover

Roofs are for protecting the interiors of buildings, providing shelter to those inside. Sidewalks are for walking on. Parking lots are for storing cars. But you could also argue that all of these interpretations of public spaces are entirely subjective. For French artists Ella and Pitr, these areas are their canvases.

Known for their distinctive and beautifully depicted street murals, the duo uses urban spaces as their backdrop, building upon them to create incredible scenes. For this series, they depicted people sleeping…in some unique locations. Check out their wonderfully unique street art below.

The French pair uses chalk, coal, acrylic paint, and ink to create their street art.

These murals are definitely a time commitment, taking anywhere from two days to two weeks to complete. It all depends on the size of the mural and, of course, the weather.

 

Each piece is inspired by people Ella and Pitr have seen walking on the street.

The artists used to draw the people in notebooks and began “to create [their] own story about [each] character.”

 

Then they decided to turn them into murals.

When asked why they decided to paint their murals on rooftops, they showed their penchant for playful humor, saying the murals are “for birds.”
